Culture and history

The Eglise d’Andelot was listed as a historic monument by decree dated 6 July 1925. At the exit of Andelot-Blancheville in the direction of Neufchâteau stands the self-propelled M8 EDITH howitzer. It is a departmental memorial commemorating the liberation of the area by the 2nd French Armoured Division.

The Eglise Saint-Louvent d’Andelot preserves several historical building phases: the nave and choir were built in the 13th century, while the western porch dates from the late 15th or early 16th century. Inscriptions on the nave’s pillars mention a fire in the 1560s as well as restorations in 1571 and 1602.

The Abbaye Saint-Nicolas de Septfontaines was founded at the beginning of the 12th century and joined the Premonstratensian order in 1138. In 1299, it was elevated to the status of a royal abbey. From May to October, the Abbaye de Septfontaines opens its doors to travellers interested in cultural heritage, as well as to groups looking for a special venue for events and seminars.

Cycling

The abbey route is a difficult cycling tour with a stated duration of 4 hours and 30 minutes, beginning and ending in Andelot-Blancheville. The circular route is 67 kilometres long and includes 660 metres of elevation gain. It passes through numerous forest areas and returns to Andelot along the La Manoise river.
