Nature and Paths

The Lac du Der Natura 2000 site covers 6,536 hectares. One specific route through the landscape is Le Vieux Der: it starts at the Sainte-Livière washhouse and leads through the forest and along a dam. The information about the starting point and route gives this path a clear landscape setting.

A path has also been developed as an area for exploration along the Canal de Wassy. In Éclaron, the canal towpath was improved and incorporated into a discovery trail; it crosses a characteristic canal bridge from the generation of metal canal bridges. The forest, dam and canal bridge each add their own distinctive feature when you compare different types of paths.

Water and Activities

Plage des Sources du Lac is open all year round. Lifeguard supervision is provided there from 1 July to 31 August, from 13:10 to 19:00 each day. Plage de la Cornée du Der is also open all year round; there too, lifeguard supervision is provided from 1 August, from 13:10 to 19:00 each day.

Another option is ROUL’ÔDER. The service is suitable for people with reduced mobility and features steering-wheel controls. ROUL’ÔDER also offers electric SWINCAR-e-Spider rides, either individually or as a tandem ride. This means that the service provides two different ride formats, while the steering-wheel controls are an explicitly stated equipment feature.

Culture and History

The Église de Braucourt preserves several historically classified structural elements: the nave and the west façade with a wooden gallery were classified as historic monuments by decree of 9 July 1909.

The Église Saint-Laurent d'Éclaron is a Flamboyant Gothic church built at the end of the 15th or the beginning of the 16th century. At the entrance to the choir is a 17th-century Christ figure supported by a remarkable rood beam structure.

In the Sainte-Libaire church, a particularly old trace of history recalls the year 1579: its bell was cast and baptised at that time. It is considered one of the oldest bells in the region. The Sainte-Libère church also contains a carved polychrome wooden statue known as Sainte Livière.

The Sainte Livière statue has been protected as a movable cultural heritage object since 26 May 2000. Another memorial is located on the Route d'Ambrières: the cross commemorating twelve airmen bears two propeller blades from an aircraft.
