Étrépigny: Vacation Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture

The surviving narrow window openings and the chancel corbels dating from the 13th century suggest that the structure of the Église Saint-Julien may date from this period. The west façade, the base of the south side, as well as the windows and corner quoins, are made of ashlar from Dom-le-Mesnil. The sacristy was built in the 18th century, and the west façade was renovated in the 18th century. In the nave, the floor is paved with slabs of limestone and black marble.

History

The parish of Étrépigny was founded around 1200 by Élan Abbey. In 1306, the abbot placed the parish under the patronage of Saint Julien; Saint-Pierre de Balaives was assigned to it as a subsidiary church. Jean Meslier was parish priest of Étrépigny from 1689 to 1729.

The Place Jean Meslier is a triangular square lined with old chestnut trees. It was named after Jean Meslier by a municipal council resolution dated December 6, 2000.

The Chemin du curé Meslier largely follows the historic path that Jean Meslier used between his two parishes. The Étrépigny–Balaives circular hike is 7.1 kilometers long, has an elevation gain of 180 meters, and takes 1 hour and 46 minutes. Its route passes through Étrépigny's tree-lined square and then continues onto the Chemin du curé Meslier.
