Veuves: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Veuves lies on the banks of the Loire, in its broad alluvial floodplain. The town is also located on the Loire à Vélo cycle route. Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Veuves is therefore choosing this town as the focus of their stay.

Culture

The Église Saint-Vincent de Veuves was built in the 12th century and remodelled in the 15th century. Guided tours have already been held there thanks to the Association pour la Sauvegarde de l’Eglise de Veuves (ASEV).

The church has a bell dating from 1742, which was classified as a historic monument in 1943. Its furnishings also include stained-glass windows and canvas frescoes signed by Fournier, a glass painter from Tours. They were installed between 1884 and 1889 and depict the discovery of the relics of Saint Bénigne and Sainte Agnès in 962, which had been hidden during the passage of the barbarians.

History

Roman remains have been discovered near Veuves, including stone walls, ceramic fragments and statuettes. During the Merovingian period, gold and silver coins bearing the inscription “Vidua Vico Fit” were minted in Veuves. Examples of the Merovingian coins associated with Veuves are kept in the Cabinet des médailles in Paris.

In the 11th century, Clovis founded a monastery in Veuves. The monastery was later destroyed by Norman pirates. In the 19th century, Veuves was an important post station.

The Fête de la St Gilles took place in Veuves in 2025.
