The church of Thenay dates back to the 12th century in its origins and was partially rebuilt in the 19th century. Its retable is considered one of the finest retables in the Cher Valley and Romorantinais area.
Before the French Revolution, the parish of Thenay was under the rule of Grand’Maison.
The Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire, a château, is located near Thenay. The wider surrounding region is also home to the Château de Chenonceau, the Château de Cangey and the Château royal de Blois; these too are châteaux.
Another special attraction in Thenay is AB Vitrail Artisanal. Visits are available by appointment. Introductory courses in stained-glass making are also offered, during which participants design their own graphic stained-glass window.

Winegrowing
The winegrowing area of the Touraine-Oisly appellation extends across five communes. Thenay is one of them and is the westernmost of these communes.
Sauvignon Blanc plays a particularly important role in the vineyards of the Touraine-Oisly appellation.
