Nature

On the outskirts of Molineuf in the direction of Chambon-sur-Cisse lies the Promenade des Rinceaux, a wetland covering around 10 hectares. Along the left bank, it follows the Cisse for just over 400 metres. The promenade includes 450 metres of wooden boardwalk and 1,200 metres of landscaped paths. A footbridge built in 2018 connects the site with hiking trails near the Church of Saint-Secondin.

Molineuf is also home to La Ferme des Oliviers, an animal sanctuary and educational farm with 250 to 300 animals.

Culture

Every year, the Promenade Artistique de Molineuf welcomes more than fifty artists. Their works of art are exhibited at around twenty different venues, including exhibition halls, cellars and gardens.

Theatre is represented by the amateur troupe Théâtre du Hérisson de Molineuf, founded in 1979. Every year, usually in March, it performs plays in various styles, including comedies, crime dramas and café theatre. In some years, there is also an outdoor performance.

The Church of Saint-Secondin has been listed in its entirety as a historic monument by decree since 8 July 2008. Its stone bell tower was built against the south wall in the 14th century. The church probably dates from the 12th century, as indicated by its west portal and the sculpted corbels on the south wall.

Hiking

The start and finish of the Trail des Moulins are located at the Parc du Moulin des Charmes in Molineuf. In Molineuf and the surrounding area, La Molineuvoise organises hikes and mountain bike tours.

The “Entre moulins et châteaux de Valencisse” hiking trail runs along the banks of the Cisse in sections, in the shade of the slopes, and is signposted with FFRandonnée 41 markings. For this hiking trail, you can park in the car park at Molineuf Town Hall; the car park is located near the Cisse.

History

In the wider municipality of Valencisse, the Château de Bury was built by Florimond Robertet. In the 16th century, it was recognised as a precursor of the Renaissance château; today, it is a ruin.

The name Molineuf is associated with the term “moulin neuf” (“new mill”).
