Culture and history

The Église Saint-Martin was classified as a historic monument by decree of 19 May 1906.

The Prieuré-Cure de Saint Martin de Lorges was founded in 1035 by Benedictines from Pontlevoy Abbey. The Église Saint-Martin was rebuilt in its present form between 1540 and 1551; its baptismal fonts were installed in 1544.

The Chapelle Saint-Thomas is connected to the former Château de Lorges, of which nothing remains. The Puits de Fontenailles is listed as a historic monument; it was listed on 8 September 1928.

The battles of Lorges and Marchenoir took place on 7, 8, 9 and 10 December.

Nature

The Forêt de Marchenoir covers approximately 350 hectares in the Lorges area.

The “04bis - Marchenoir - Villemuzard” hiking trail in Lorges is 9.4 km long and easy.

Geographical setting

There are three historic sites in the area around Lorges: the Abbaye Notre-Dame de l’Aumône, the Château de Beaugency and the Abbaye Notre-Dame-de-Beaugency.

In the wider regional surroundings of Lorges lies the Château du Bouchet, a château. The Parc de Menars and the Parc de Chambord are also located in this wider regional area.

Other destinations include Millançay, Selles-Sur-Cher, Oisly, Villeny, Contres, La Ferté-Saint-Cyr, Veilleins and Cour-Sur-Loire.
