Culture and History
The Église Saint-Barthélemy preserves several furnishings classified as historic monuments: a polychrome wooden corpus of Christ from the 17th century, two oil paintings from the 17th century, a gravestone dating from 1674 and a bronze bell dating from 1580.
Its bell tower is also a striking architectural detail. At a height of 20 metres, it changes from a square to an octagonal shape. It is crowned by a dome, a campanile and a lantern; at the same time, it is regarded as a case study for schools of architecture.
La Grande Borne comprises a chapel and a former 19th-century hospice. During a historical presentation, the former Château de la Gaudinière and its owners, Augustin Marie Mathieu Stanislas de La Rochefoucauld and Marie Adolphine Sophie de Colbert de Chabanais, were presented there; they were involved in the construction of La Grande Borne.
On 21 September 2025, a free guided tour of the architectural heritage took place at La Grande Borne from 2 to 4 p.m. On this occasion, the chapel was exceptionally open to visitors.
In the wider region around La Ville-aux-Clercs are the historic site of Prieuré Saint-Médard de Vendôme, the historic site of Château de Vendôme, the Château de Châteaudun castle and the historic site of Abbaye de la Virginité.
