Culture and history

The listed Maison à pans de bois, dite de l'Ecu includes a typical half-timbered inn from the region, which preserves a wooden gallery.

The Auberge des Trois Canards also dates back a long way: it was already mentioned in 1464 and was formerly called “l’Ostel des Trois Piliers”. It was built from half-timbering, wattle and daub, and bricks—materials considered typical of the Sologne.

The Église Saint-Barthélemy in La Ferté-Beauharnais was founded in 1149; a collegiate chapter was established there in 1177. In the 14th century, the church was destroyed during the Hundred Years’ War and, after its reconstruction, was reconsecrated on 23 January 1524. It has six choir stalls for the canons, whose carved misericords from the 16th century depict animals or human figures. The Église Saint-Barthélemy has also preserved its 16th-century porch; the cemetery still lies around the church.

According to local tradition, Joan of Arc visited the church of La Ferté-Beauharnais and let her horse drink at the river.

Nature and trails

The Beuvron flows below La Ferté-Beauharnais. Historically, it served for a long time as a river boundary with the neighbouring regions. La Ferté-Beauharnais also has the signposted walking route “Circuit LA FERTÉ-BEAUHARNAIS”.

Gustave is a mobile adventure and exploration game held outdoors that combines a treasure hunt with orienteering. The Gustave route in La Ferté-Beauharnais is 6.9 km long.

Events and discoveries

The Foire de la Saint-Barnabé is held in La Ferté-Beauharnais every year on 11 June. The Explor'game “La Grande Histoire de la Ferté-Beauharnais” begins in the village square. The association Autour des Beauharnais offers guided tours that showcase the commune’s historical heritage.

Since 2019, the performance “Hors les Murs” has been held in summer in the park of the Château de la Ferté-Beauharnais. For this performance, the park is generously opened to the public.
