History and Culture
The new Château de Droué was built between 1610 and 1614. It stands on a former feudal motte that served as an outlying defensive position for Châteaudun. At the Château de Droué, the location of the monumental staircase and the semi-underground level of the utility rooms have been preserved.
The Ancienne chapelle de Boisseleau was originally the church of a Benedictine priory dependent on the Abbey of Saint-Avit in Châteaudun. It has a 12th-century nave with a semicircular vaulted apse, as well as an incomplete 16th-century northern aisle. Traces of 16th-century wall paintings can be seen on the apse; they are known as “Les Trois Marie”.
The Église Saint-Nicolas de Bourguérin, now the church of Droué, has been mentioned since 1177; its oldest surviving sections date from the late 15th or early 16th century. In 1631, the church was extended westwards by two bays. Two side chapels were added in 1833, and a sacristy in 1875.
The Église Saint-Nicolas de Bourguérin houses a painting attributed to Pierre Jouvenet. It depicts a kneeling soldier presenting a large book and keys to a bishop.
