Culture
The protected parts of the Château d’Avaray include the façades and roofs, the chapel’s interior, the moat, the bridge and the park. The bell tower of the Église Notre-Dame d’Avaray was built in 1553. The present-day Église Notre-Dame d’Avaray was rebuilt around 1835 on the site of an 11th-century church, which in turn had been founded on an older structure.
The Église Notre-Dame d’Avaray retains a portal jamb with small columns dating from the 12th century and a round arch made of small wedge stones dating from the 11th century. The Lavoir du Tertre is part of Avaray’s minor cultural heritage. The port facilities on the Loire in Avaray are part of the built cultural heritage.
Nature
The Loire forms the southern boundary of Avaray. Avaray has two Natura 2000 sites and three ZNIEFF sites, i.e. natural areas of ecological, faunal and floristic interest.
Cycling
Avaray is located on the signposted Loire à Vélo cycle route. The section of the Loire à Vélo near Avaray is connected to the signposted « Châteaux à Vélo » cycle network. This network comprises 14 routes covering a total of 400 signposted kilometres.
