Culture and History
The present-day Logis des Madères comprises a main building dating from the mid-17th century. Troglodytic cellars are located north of the courtyard; the estate also includes a dovecote. The Château du Clos also preserves several historic structures: its central main building dates from the 16th century, while a pavilion was built in the park at the beginning of the 17th century.
At Le Port à Vin, wine barrels were loaded onto narrow, flat-bottomed boats. They were transported along a still-preserved towpath, pulled by horses, as far as the Loire near Vouvray.
Wine and Trails
The “Vignes et Patrimoine” circular trail is 6.5 km long and passes through the AOC Vouvray wine-growing region. There are 15 information panels along the route with descriptions. The trail passes troglodytic dwellings and vineyard huts and offers views of the slopes of Vernou-sur-Brenne and its vineyards.
The wine landscape includes EARL Les Vaux Louis, a 26-hectare family winery on the slopes of Vaux Louis in Vernou-sur-Brenne, in the heart of the AOC Vouvray appellation. The winery offers wine tastings and cellar tours by prior appointment.
