The parish church of Nouans-les-Fontaines houses the Pietà de Nouans, an oil painting on walnut wood dated to around 1460–1465 by Jean Fouquet. It is considered the only surviving religious painting attributed to Jean Fouquet. Jean Fouquet’s Pietà is displayed on the main altar of the Église Saint-Martin.
The Maison Jean Fouquet is located in the town center, 50 m from the Église Saint-Martin. It presents annotated reproductions illustrating various aspects of the painter’s work and has a screening room with an annotated slide show.
The archaeological museum includes fossil and tool collections relating to the Montrésor–Nouans-les-Fontaines region. The Piscine de Nouans-les-Fontaines has a 25 m outdoor swimming pool and a paddling pool for children. The outdoor pool bears the “Architecture contemporaine remarquable” label.
Nature
The “Sur les terres de la Pietà de Nouans” circular trail passes through a hilly landscape and offers beautiful viewpoints. At 12 km long, it runs through the municipality of Nouans-les-Fontaines.
A permanent photo exhibition showcases the fauna and microscopic world of the surrounding landscapes and forests.
