Culture

The Musée Lansyer is located in the former family home of the landscape painter Emmanuel Lansyer (1835–1893). It houses more than 8,000 objects that Lansyer bequeathed to the town of Loches. The museum presents the artist’s work and life in an accessible way, using sensory stations, explanatory texts available to all, and individually tailored guided tours.

The Église Saint-Antoine is located in a former Ursuline convent and houses numerous 17th-century paintings, including a painting by Jean Boucher. It also has an early 19th-century organ. The Saint-Antoine Gallery displays Jean Poyer’s 15th-century triptych as well as the two works “Caravage de Philippe de Béthune”.

Architecture

The Collégiale Saint-Ours dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. Its polychrome portal depicts figures and fantastic animals from the Romanesque bestiary. The Collégiale also features two hollow octagonal pyramids known as “dubes”; they are described as a unique feature in France.

History

La Chancellerie houses a permanent exhibition in four rooms on the history of Loches. The building has an exceptional Renaissance façade dating from 1551, inspired by the works of Michelangelo. The amphitheatre-shaped garden serves as a promenade area and can occasionally host concerts and performances.
