Fontenay-Sous-Fouronnes is also part of the type 2 ZNIEFF Forêt de Frétoy. The Forêt de Frétoy covers 7,131.84 hectares. Several deciduous forest areas alternate there with cultivated land, meadows, scrubland and pine plantations. This forest is home to the very rare in Burgundy Cytise couché, the very rare in Burgundy Cynoglosse d'Allemagne and the rare in Burgundy Limodore à feuilles avortées. Underground quarries are also home to hibernating colonies of bats of European importance, including the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis).

The statue Vierge à l’Enfant is located in the Église Saint-Christophe et Sainte-Barbe and dates from the 15th century.
