The ruins of the Château de Chandioux in Maux date mainly from the 14th and 15th centuries; for a long time, the château was the seat of a powerful barony. Around 1786, it was partially demolished. Since 9 January 1970, the ruins have been listed as a historic monument.

Maux is included in the type 1 ZNIEFF area of Bocage de Moulins-Engilbert. The area consists of bocage meadows, individual wooded areas and valleys with wet meadows.
A maternity roost of the greater mouse-eared bat (Myotis myotis), a bat species of European interest, has been recorded in the ZNIEFF area. Hedgerows, riverside trees and wooded margins provide highly suitable hunting habitats for bats there.
