Marigny-Sur-Yonne: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

At the Canal du Nivernais, two lock keeper’s houses stand on the Seine slope: the house at Lock 30 is called de Marigny and bears the year 1830. The house at Lock 32 is called des Mortes and bears the year 1835.

Culture and history

Marignacus ad Yonnam was elevated to a parish in 653. The new church of Marigny-sur-Yonne was built from 1851 to 1854. The hill above the confluence of the Anguison and Yonne had been inhabited for a long time.

Water and craftsmanship

The Lavoir de Douée is an impluvium-type washhouse built by the municipality in 1909 at a spring that fed a pond. At the Lavoir de Douée, there are three stone troughs connected to the spring that formerly supplied water to livestock.

A canal house in Marigny-sur-Yonne built around 1835 became the restaurant-bar “L’écluse de la Môme”. When planning a trip, the desire to rent a holiday apartment in Marigny-sur-Yonne may be the primary consideration.

Museum discoveries

The Musée des mondes imaginaires in Marigny-sur-Yonne displays figures and sets made of cardboard and reused materials. The museum also has a model railway layout managed by M. Fraval.

Travelling along the canal

The Chitry-les-Mines–Clamecy cycling stage leaves the canal at Marigny via the D 216 and then continues along a small road to Chitry-les-Mines. The infrastructure along the Canal du Nivernais also includes a railway bridge with masonry abutments, a metal superstructure and metal railings.
