Culture and history

Saint-Apollinaire preserves notable reminders of its local history: the redoubt forms part of the Séré de Rivières defence system around Dijon; construction work took place from 1878 to 1880. By decree of 17 March 2006, it was listed as a historic monument. The church of Saint-Apollinaire also preserves a historical detail: its medieval apse is listed as a historic monument. In the Middle Ages, the church was also a pilgrimage site centred around its miraculous fountain.

The Château de Saint-Apollinaire has several historical associations. In 1856, M. Champy transformed the château into a museum. The municipality acquired it in 1931 to establish a mairie-école there, meaning a combination of town hall and school. The château complex also includes a dovecote with a hexagonal floor plan.

The Mille-Club, salle Marcel Daisey, is a building constructed in 1972 that bears the “Architecture contemporaine remarquable” label.

For more than 70 years, a fair has been held every year on the second Sunday in September at the Clos Saint-François. The Epleumiades are one of Saint-Apollinaire’s recurring cultural events.

Anyone including Saint-Apollinaire, the redoubt, the church and the Chemin de Mémoire in their travel plans may want to find or rent a holiday apartment.
