Culture and history
The Abbaye Saint-Vivant was founded between 894 and 918 to house the relics of Saint Vivant. The entire remains of the Abbaye Saint-Vivant, as well as the associated areas of the monastery grounds, including the retaining walls on plots 1 to 5 in cadastral section AB, were listed as a historic monument by decree of 18 April 2018. The ruins of the Abbaye Saint-Vivant are considered a protected historic building in Curtil-Vergy.
The ruins of the Abbaye de Lieu-Dieu are located in the immediate vicinity of Curtil-Vergy. The surrounding area of Curtil-Vergy also includes the historic site of Château de Gilly, the historic site of Manoir de La Perrière de Fixin, and the Abbaye Sainte-Marguerite de Bouilland monastery.
Nature
The narrow, rocky ridge of the Butte de Vergy is covered with forests of stunted oaks and dry grasslands. On the Butte de Vergy, visitors can observe the Å’illet des rochers, a plant that is rare in Burgundy.
The Mont Afrique mountain is located in the wider surroundings of Curtil-Vergy. The Mont Tasselot hill is located in the wider regional surroundings of Curtil-Vergy.
Trails and local cuisine
Curtil-Vergy can be reached from the north and south via the RD 116; the RD 109 leads southwest to Messanges. The GR7 long-distance hiking trail passes by Au Petit Bonheur in Curtil-Vergy. Au Petit Bonheur in Curtil-Vergy serves traditional Burgundian cuisine made from local products.
Romanée-Saint-Vivant is a creation of the Hautes-Côtes monastery based in Curtil-Vergy.
