Culture and History
The Château de Valprivas was built in the 14th century on the site of an earlier “castellum et oppidum” and remodelled in the Italian Renaissance style in the 16th century. A decree dated 18 July 1994 classified the chapel of the Château de Valprivas as a historic monument.
The Chapelle Saint-Agathe-de-Catane has a square floor plan and a ribbed vault in the Flamboyant Gothic style. Its wall paintings depict the Resurrection and Hell. Guided tours of the Château de Valprivas are available exclusively by prior appointment via email.
Landscape and Trails
The PR681 De Chomont aux Côtes crosses the Andrable and the Bloue and offers views of the Loire Valley. As a circular hiking route, it is difficult and 23.0 km long; it is located in Valprivas. Part of the route follows the GR® 3.
The PR659 Autour de la Bloue is a difficult, 10.1 km circular hiking route starting in Valprivas. Along the route, there are watering troughs, crosses, a bread oven, a farrier’s stand and a béate house beside the Bloue stream.
