Beaux is part of the Gorges du Ramel protected area and natural inventory zone (ZNIEFF 830005540). The Ramel is a small tributary of the Loire and forms part of Beaux’s rural natural landscape. Near Beaux, the Ramel gorges become deep and narrow, creating a picturesque landscape.
Those who have chosen Beaux as their destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Nature and landscape
Arzilhac lies on the slope of the Suc de Gorce; from there, the view overlooks the Loire Valley to the southwest. The PR267 Beaux et le Riougrand route leads between hills and gorges along bucolic paths to works of art by artists from Beaux. The PR267 Beaux et le Riougrand hiking route is 14.05 km long and takes around 3 hours and 30 minutes.
Culture
The parish church of Saint Barthélemy was built from 1887 to 1889: the bell tower was constructed in the neo-Romanesque style, while the nave was built in the Gothic Revival style. The church has 18 stained-glass windows created in 1890 by the glass artist Mauvernay.
In the centre of Arzilhac stands the Maison de la Béate. A fountain and a stone livestock trough are located beside Arzilhac’s communal bread oven. Next to the bread oven stands the Bête du Ramel, a copper artwork commemorating a local legend from 1959.
Local associations in Beaux organise arts and crafts markets, village festivals and concerts.
Hiking and trails
The Saut du Chien tourist circular trail begins at the church of Saint Barthélemy. The Saut du Chien is a place to relax along the route through the Gorges du Ramel. Beaux also has a Respirando-certified hike where visitors can discover local chapels, meeting houses and communal bread ovens.
The PR267 Beaux et le Riougrand route starts and ends in Beaux. Access is via the D103 and D421; parking at the Place de l'église is recommended.
