Senézergues: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Château de Sénezergues was listed as a historic monument by decree of 7 October 1931. Below the village stands the Château Féodal de Sénezergues, a feudal castle dating from the 15th century. The Château de Sénezergues may date back to the 13th century and has a rectangular layout with four corner towers.

Originally, the Château de Sénezergues had five large towers, a defensive wall section three to six metres high, and three detached turrets. The building also included a stone spiral staircase with 84 steps. In the Middle Ages, the Château de Sénezergues was the scene of intense military activity.

Culture

The church in Sénezergues, dedicated to Saint Martin, is said to have been built in the 16th century and completely restored between 1847 and 1876. The Church of Saint Martin houses an originally polychrome wooden equestrian statue of Saint Martin; its oldest bell dates from 1806.

The Castel d’Auze was a fortress built in the Middle Ages, with a double enclosure, deep moats, and underground exits. Its keep stood on the rock above the Auze. Associated with the Castel d’Auze is the medieval poet known as the Dame du Castel d’Auze, who wrote love poems in the 13th century.

Nature

The Portes du Don passage runs between two vertical rocks six metres high and was considered a place offering particularly beautiful viewpoints.

Sénezergues is connected to two major hiking trails, including the northern GR 465. This trail leads from Sénezergues towards Cassaniouze and onward into the Lot Valley, offering views over the varied landscapes of the Châtaigneraie. The La Dame du Castel d’Auze hiking trail is approximately twelve kilometres long, begins in the village of Sénezergues, and leads to the gorges of the Don, deeply cut by the Auze River.

Local

The Fête de la noix nut festival, held annually at the beginning of October, is locally called “rascalou” in Sénezergues. At the Fête de la noix, numerous walnut products such as bread, cakes, and walnut wine are offered, and items made from walnut wood are sold.

The Savonnerie des Adrets offers a free, approximately one-hour soap-making demonstration on Wednesdays in July and August from 3 p.m., by prior reservation. Sem’Arôme grows around 30 organic aromatic and medicinal plants and processes them into herbal teas and culinary herbs. Meetings are offered there in the field or during a distillation; in summer, guided tours of the crops and laboratory are available on Thursdays at 4 p.m. by prior reservation via SMS.
