Cassaniouze: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

The 129-kilometre GR465 long-distance hiking trail begins in the Monts du Cantal, passes through the Carladès and the valleys of the Goul and the Lot, and ends in Conques via one of two possible routes; it passes through Cassaniouze. Along its entire route, the GR465 is marked with trail markers officially approved by the French hiking federation.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Cassaniouze can include this place in their travel plans.

Hiking and trails

Cassaniouze hosts the Ultra Rando every year, with several hiking routes for different levels of ability. The Bécarie-Vinzelle hiking trail connects the hamlet of La Bécarie in Cassaniouze with the village of La Vinzelle in Grand-Vabre in Aveyron, built on a rocky outcrop.

The “La Dame du Castel d’Auze” hiking trail runs through the territory of Cassaniouze. From the Rochers de Servant, it offers views of the green gorges of the Don.

Landscape and cycle route

The D601 climbs steeply for ten kilometres from the banks of the Lot through a chestnut grove several centuries old. This road offers spectacular views of the Lot.

Cassaniouze is a possible starting point for the 35-kilometre “Au cœur des châtaigniers” cycle route.

Culture and history

The Church of Notre-Dame de la Purification retains the choir, one bay and the bell tower of a Gothic church built in the 14th and 15th centuries. Its bell tower has been partially protected as a monument historique since 2002.

Visits to the twin church of Cassaniouze are possible between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Pressing a button illuminates and slowly rotates the Sainte-Croix Cross, allowing visitors to view the goldsmith’s work. The cross displayed in the Sainte-Croix Chapel has been classified as an art object since 30 June 1908.

The hamlet of La Bécarie in Cassaniouze preserves the memory of the Enfarinés; the recantation of the last religious dissenters was received by the Bishop of Saint-Flour in 1911.

Local traditions

Every spring, Cassaniouze holds the annual sale of fouaces associated with the communal bread ovens of the municipality.
