Culture and History
The Château Lota in Ustaritz houses the offices of the Basque Cultural Institute.
The Château Lota was built between 1874 and 1879 by Bernard, known as Baptiste Duhart, and his wife Dominique-Rosalie Ainciondo, who had previously made their fortune in Chile.
The Église Saint-Vincent in Ustaritz is protected as a historic monument. It was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style from 1859 onwards and features galleries and painted wall decoration.
Five historic mills in different forms have been preserved in Ustaritz. Haitzeko Iharra is documented as a grain mill that was transferred in 1424 to Augier de Lehet, the Seigneur of Haitze.
At the beginning of the 14th century, Latseko Iharra was dependent on the House of Hirigoina.
Paths and Landscape
On the walking trails of the municipality of Ustaritz, visitors can see restored fountains, washhouses and a lime kiln as part of the rural cultural heritage, as well as private chapels, viewpoints and watchtowers.
The Parcours de Sainte-Barbe in Arrauntz is a 4.5-kilometre circular route. It reaches a ridge with views of the ocean and the Basque mountains.
The greenway leads to the Plaine des sports d’Ustaritz in just a few minutes.
Local
A weekly farmers’ market takes place every Saturday morning on Place LOTA.
