The parish church of Saint-Vincent in Aramits was rebuilt between 1884 and 1886 in the Romanesque-Byzantine style. A rusticated portal dating from the 17th century is the only surviving element of the former lay abbey of Aramits.

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Aramits can treat this accommodation preference as a separate part of their trip planning.

Culture

One of the notable historical references is Le Cayolar. The structure was reconstructed stone by stone from a shepherd's hut that had previously stood at Pierre Saint-Martin. As a traditional summer-pasture hut, it was used for cheese production and was also the shepherd's home during the summer grazing season.

Hiking and cycling

Route No. 7 Barétous – Bois de Gouloume is a very easy 5.9-kilometre hike with 250 metres of elevation gain. It takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes and is accessible to everyone. The path to Bois de Gouloume above Aramits leads over a ridge and through summer pastures and fern-covered areas where herds graze.

Route No. 29 – La Pierre Jacques begins at the junction by Aramits town hall and follows the D133 towards Arette and Spain. As a cycling route, it is difficult, 122 kilometres long and with 2,800 metres of elevation gain, designed for athletic cyclists.

Experiences

At Aventure Parc® Aramits, there are 17 tree-climbing courses and more than 150 games in the trees; the activities are intended for visitors aged three and over. The park also offers jumps onto a giant airbag and paintball for visitors aged twelve and over.

The Fête des Bergers includes a hike for experienced hikers, accompanying a shepherd as he brings the herds back down to the valley, as well as a pastoral evening with a “Souper du berger”.

Traditions

In summer, a guided tour of Le Cayolar is offered as part of the pastoral evening. The hut can only be visited as part of a guided tour booked in advance.

The Fête des Bergers takes place every year in Aramits on the third weekend of September.

Cheese

The Fromagerie d'Aramits offers a cheese tasting. It is a cooperative that collects milk from around fifty shepherds from Barétous and Soule and centrally produces cow's-milk, sheep's-milk and mixed-milk cheeses.
