Culture

The Église Saint-Martin in Ahetze was built in the 17th century. It has a single-nave nave, a round apse to the east, three levels of galleries and a raised choir that is entirely occupied by a reredos.

Ahetze is home to old Basque houses in the Labourdin style, many of which date from the 17th and 18th centuries. The village was also a stopping point for pilgrims on the coastal route of the Way of St. James towards Baztan.

Ahetze's historic village square comprises the church, the town hall and an adjoining fronton. It is a cultural meeting place for gatherings, festivals and pelota matches.

In the vicinity of Ahetze are Château d'Abbadia, the Rocher de la Vierge monument, Fort Château Vieux de Bayonne and the historic site of Abbaye de Saint-Bernard-lès-Bayonne.

Nature

Several beaches are located around Ahetze: Plage d'Ilbarritz, Côte des Basques, Grande Plage and Plage du Miramar.

Biarritz Airport is 10.7 km from Ahetze; the journey by car takes approximately 19 minutes and by bicycle about 45 minutes.
