Puymirol was founded as a bastide in 1246 by Raymond VII, Count of Toulouse. The medieval town plan features parallel and perpendicular streets, as well as a central square lined with arcades. The historic fortifications of Puymirol have four fortified gates and follow the course of the rocky promontory.

The Église Notre-Dame du Grand-Castel was built in 1246 together with the bastide. Only the bell tower and portal of the church survived; it was subsequently restored at the beginning of the 17th century. The entire Église Notre-Dame du Grand-Castel was listed as a monument historique by decree of 25 July 2003.

The Musée des roches cristallines et des outils anciens de la vigne displays 545 minerals from around the world, as well as restored tools used by winegrowers and coopers in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Moulin de Laprade is a preserved windmill that formerly took over the milling operations of the Moulin d’Auzel on the Séoune when water levels were low.

The Chemin de ronde is approximately 1.4 kilometres long and encircles almost the entire bastide. The Tour Ficat is the only surviving tower of the Puymirol citadel and served as a watchtower and fortress during the Hundred Years’ War.

Puym'Jazz has been held as an open-air jazz festival in Puymirol since 2003. The concerts take place on the esplanade of the citadel above the town walls and the Chemin de ronde.

The circular hiking trail “Puymirol, première bastide de l’Agenais” begins at the Place du Foirail, leads around the lake and follows a ridge path with views of the bastide.
