Nature and water
Plage du Lac Marin La Sauvagine is situated beneath a shady pine forest. Swimming is possible there in shallow, warmer water protected from waves. From Soustons town centre, the beach can be reached via the D652 and Avenue de la Pêtre; a shaded car park is located close to the beach.
Plage de l'Océan is a large sandy beach. From a shaded car park, an approximately ten-minute path through the forest and dunes leads to it. In the protected natural landscape, the beach is suitable for surfing.
Activities
Itinérêve is a 6 km-long greenway with 38 sculptures between the lake and the ocean. In addition, Soustons has signposted mountain biking, hiking and running routes by the lake or in the municipal forest.
A canoe trip on the Courant de Soustons begins at Lac de Soustons and leads for 7 km through the Landes forest to Lac marin de Port d'Albret. At Lac de Soustons, the Centre Evad'Sport is an outdoor recreation centre. Canoes and kayaks, paddles, large paddle boats and pedal boats are rented there for use on the lake; catamaran courses are also available. The activities on offer also include high-ropes courses, trips on the Courant, activities for children aged six and over, and multisport raids.
The Centre de Formation Nautique – Pôle Nautique Soustons Plage in Soustons Plage offers surfing, bodyboarding and coastal rescue.
Culture
The Arènes Henri Canelas in Soustons host cultural, festive and sporting events, have 2,900 seats and are accessible only during events. Every year, particularly in summer, they host bullfighting performances.
The Mémorial François Mitterrand is a 2.20-metre-high bronze sculpture by Jacques Raoult. It commemorates François Mitterrand's 31-year stay at his Bergerie de Latche in Soustons. The Terra-Aventura trail in Soustons focuses on water and small-scale cultural heritage. Soustons' cultural season also includes the “ARTE FLAMENCO” festival in January.
Local life
Soustons' year-round market takes place on Place des Arènes and offers local produce as well as other goods.
