Culture and History

The Marquèze district covers 20 hectares and features characteristic elements of rural life at the end of the 19th century. The Pavillon de Marquèze at Sabres railway station offers permanent and temporary exhibition areas. The Écomusée de Marquèze presents demonstrations of historical skills and techniques every day.

The Marquèze district is accessible to the public by train, whose carriages from 1906 and 1911 are classified as historic monuments. The Écomusée de Marquèze is open daily from 1 April to 27 September 2026.

The Saint-Michel Church in Sabres already existed in the 11th century. The main part of the present-day church was built in two successive construction phases during the first decades of the 16th century. It has been classified as a historic monument since 23 March 1942; the porch and side aisles were additionally added to the supplementary inventory on 18 December 1991.

Nature

In Sabres, the pine forest is part of the natural heritage waiting to be discovered. Mountain biking, including rides starting at a nearby base, makes it possible to discover the local flora and fauna.
