Habas lies on the heights above the Gave de Pau. The local routes include the Boucle des ruisseaux de Chalosse: it is 17 km long in total, but can be shortened to a 12-km loop at the Route du Château d'eau. The route starts and ends at the Lavoir and is accessible to hikers, runners and mountain bikers.
Nature
The Circuit des Arrigans lies in the northern part of the Habas area. It runs along small, traffic-free side roads, across “cantères” and along sunken dirt tracks through leafy woodland. The Circuit Lataillade gradually descends southwards towards the Gave de Pau valley. In the village, the Boulevard des Pyrénées is also shaded by venerable plane trees.
Culture
The old washhouse of Habas is part of the commune’s rich cultural heritage. The Parcours Découverte was established on 3 April 2023 with the support of the Office du Tourisme du Pays d'Orthe et Arrigans, allowing visitors to discover the village of Habas, its cultural heritage and its history.
The Rachède spring is located about 300 metres from the centre of Habas. The inhabitants of Habas have always obtained their water from this spring. The Church of Saint Pierre et Saint Paul can also be visited in the village centre.
History
Since the 14th century, Habas has been located on a route to Santiago de Compostela. In 1638, Louis XIII granted Habas letters patent permitting a weekly market on Fridays. Lively trade, numerous local shops and local crafts developed around this market.
Orientation
The local visitor information recommends parking at the foot of the church and walking along the busy Rue Centrale.
