Culture and History

The Catholic chapel of Bas-Mauco is located in the village’s multipurpose hall.

The parish of Mauco was divided into the two municipalities of Haut-Mauco and Bas-Mauco in 1793. As early as the 13th century, pilgrims travelling to Compostela crossed the large oak forest of Maucor. This later gave its name to the two villages of Haut-Mauco and Bas-Mauco when the parish was divided.

The Castet-Charlat sector is designated as an archaeologically sensitive area, with settlement remains and a fortified site dating from prehistoric times and the Middle Ages.
