Access to the Réserve biologique d’Hostens et des lagunes du Gât Mort is free of charge. Pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders may move there exclusively on the signposted paths, including the GR®6.
Cycling
The Domaine nature et de loisirs d’Hostens has three green mountain-bike routes of 8, 11 and 16 km, as well as optional red and black loops. From Hostens, the Scandibérique follows a developed green route eastwards towards Bazas and then continues to Langon. The section near Hostens passes through the tranquil landscape of a pine forest.
Water and History
Beneath the clear waters of Lac d’Hostens lay one of the largest lignite deposits in the early 1930s. Today, the lake has a beach open for swimming, as well as an area for fishing and ornithology.
Further Discoveries
An educational trail has been created at the Marais du Cla, which also has an ornithological observatory. Les Écuries du Lac d’Hostens offer horse-riding activities in nature, including introductory and discovery sessions, trail rides, vaulting and riding games, as well as rides in the Landes and around the lakes of Hostens.
The Chapelle Sainte-Catherine is a simple Gothic church from the 16th century with restored murals. Nature Landes welcomes visitors year-round exclusively by reservation in a 5-hectare park in the heart of the Landes de Gascogne forest.
