Eyrans: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Eyrans encompasses two distinctly different types of landscape within its municipal boundaries: a plateau and marshland. The plateau is entirely shaped by viticulture, while the marshland is dominated by pastureland. The transition zone in front of the marshland is used for growing cereals and vegetables; it is irrigated by the Moulinade.

Landscape and Nature

The natural area includes the Marais de la Vergne, a type 1 ZNIEFF natural area encompassing the municipality of Eyrans. It is of high ecological importance and has a species-rich flora typical of fens.

The Marais de la Vergne provides herons with opportunities to forage and potentially breed, as well as food and breeding opportunities for numerous marsh songbirds and birds of prey. A population of European mink also lives there.

Culture and History

The Église Saint-Pierre d’Eyrans lies along one of the routes leading to Santiago de Compostela. It houses a 17th-century marble depiction of the Virgin and Child, originating from the former hospital village.

The church retains the floor plan of its original structure, which has been altered several times since the 12th century. Extensions were added at the end of the 17th century and in the 19th century. By appointment, the Église Saint-Pierre d’Eyrans can be visited free of charge.

Getting Around

The N137 departmental road runs through Eyrans; the A10 motorway is 7 kilometres away. Cantonal hiking trails run through the municipality of Eyrans.

Cycling

The Blaye–Etauliers cycle path runs through Eyrans. It is 14 kilometres long, takes about an hour by bicycle and is classified as easy. The route follows a former railway line and passes through the Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux vineyards.
