The Jardin de la Lamproie is a 5,000 m² botanical garden with more than 400 species of riverside plants arranged along a gravel path that evokes the winding course of the Dordogne.

Nature

The Jardin de la Lamproie features a promenade showcasing native plant species. It also houses a tourist information office run by the Grand-Saint-Émilionnais tourist office. The Jardin de la Lamproie has an exhibition room where children can see lampreys in an aquarium and watch a documentary.

The La Dordogne Natura 2000 site, which includes Sainte-Terre, comprises aquatic habitats, riverside vegetation and alluvial forests. The site also includes habitats for migratory fish, dragonflies, the European otter, the European pond turtle, the European mink and the estuarine angelica.

Culture

The Église Saint-Alexis was listed as a historic monument by decree of 21 December 1925. It has a Romanesque foundation, a flat-ended chancel, a vaulted dome bay and a nave covered by a false vault.

Sainte-Terre’s architectural heritage includes beautiful manor houses built since the 19th century along the former towpath and in the village centre. Sainte-Terre also lies along one of the routes leading to Santiago de Compostela.

Trails

The hiking route starts at the Église Saint-Alexis and runs from Sainte-Terre along the Dordogne. The Lavagnac hiking loop starts at the Jardin de la Lamproie and follows the Dordogne between the vineyards of Sainte-Terre.

Local cuisine and wine

Lamprey is eaten in Sainte-Terre all year round; it is also celebrated there in April. At Vignobles Mouty, cellar and vineyard tours can be arranged by prior agreement and appointment.
