Puy des Ages is one of the two Espaces Naturels Sensibles (sensitive natural areas) in the Dordogne and extends across the municipalities of Saint-Cyr-les-Champagnes and Saint-Mesmin.

Nature

Puy des Ages is a 1.5-kilometre-long rocky ridge reaching an elevation of 413 metres and characterised by quartzite. At Puy des Ages, there are acidic heathlands with heather, bilberries, purple moor-grass and dwarf gorse, as well as a discreet wildlife population including larks, meadow pipits, marsh harriers and migrating woodpigeons.

A white quartz path leads through the heath at Puy des Ages towards the valley. Puy des Ages has a nearby car park, a water point, toilets and picnic tables.

Culture

The main construction phases of the Church of Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Juliette date from the 11th, 12th and 17th centuries. The church has a short nave, a vaulted forechoir, chapels added later that form a transept, and an elongated choir.

Every year on the first Sunday in September, a Mass is celebrated in the Notre-Dame de Partout chapel, followed by a pilgrimage. The chapel also contains votive offerings made of paper, slate and tree bark.

The Lo Sendero Dau Verdier route starts in Saint-Cyr-les-Champagnes. Lo Sendero Dau Verdier is a 5.5-kilometre circular route that can be used on horseback, on foot, for trail running and by mountain bike.
