Saint-Astier: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église de Saint-Astier was built at the end of the 10th century and consecrated at the beginning of the 11th century. Its choir contains a crypt that has been preserved to this day.

Culture and History

Saint-Astier remains an important stop for pilgrims on the Vézelay Way to Santiago de Compostela. The Exposition d'Art Sacré exhibition displays unusual religious objects, including a communion wafer iron, a clapper, a penitential belt and a bourdaloue. It can be visited free of charge from mid-June to mid-September, Monday to Friday from 2 to 6 p.m., preferably by prior appointment.

Chaux de Saint-Astier offers guided tours of an underground quarry at a depth of almost 20 metres. The tours explain the production and use of natural hydraulic lime.

Active Pursuits

In Saint-Astier, canoes and kayaks are rented for independently planned trips on the Isle covering 4 to 19 km from the Petit Pré base. Saint-Astier is also traversed by 6.5 km of the Véloroute Voie Verte. The Saint-Astier bowstring footbridge connects the canal with Petit Pré and is exclusively for pedestrians and bicycles.

The Boucle de Puyferrat begins in Saint-Astier and is 10 km long. It is a walking route that, after a somewhat steep ascent, passes through pleasant shady sections.

Château de Puyferrat was open for visits during the summer.
