Culture and History
The Church of Saint-Sylvestre de Prats-de-Carlux has a 15th-century bell gable rising above an 18th-century porch. This combination is considered the only known example of its kind among the churches of the Périgord.
The fountain and washhouse of Vialard were restored as part of local work on the small heritage of the area.
Palaeolithic remains and a Palaeolithic site are known at Pech de Bourre; they have been documented since 1900 and were excavated in 1922 by the prehistorian Denis Peyrony.
Trails
The long-distance GR6 hiking trail crosses part of Prats-de-Carlux. The 9.5-kilometre Boucle des Hameaux de Prats circular hiking route also begins here.
The Boucle des Gautheries hiking trail leads to the Château du Sirey, a private property that is not open to the public. However, its restored grounds and architecture can be admired.
For mountain bikers, the challenging BOUCLE VTT 20 – Carlux / Simeyrols circular route runs for 20.5 kilometres from its starting point in Carlux and offers views of the Church of Saint-Sylvestre de Prats-de-Carlux.
Cuisine
SCEA Les Oies du Périgord Noir offers farm tours by prior appointment. Individual visits are free, and groups can also be received by arrangement.
Artisanally produced preserves and regional products are sold directly there, including whole or semi-cooked goose foie gras, terrines with orange or prepared in the Périgord style, rillettes, confits, cured meats, duck breast and wines.
La Garrigue Haute is an active family-run business with ducks and geese, a farm inn, the sale of fresh products and preserves, and seven non-smoking rooms. A visit may include a meal featuring typical dishes made exclusively from local products; recipes and preparation techniques from Périgord cuisine are also shared.
