Landscape
Orliaguet offers a varied landscape with different landforms and views stretching from the Monts d’Auvergne to the Dordogne Valley.
The village is situated in a natural, wooded setting with numerous hiking trails through forested hills and valleys.
Those who choose Orliaguet as a place to stay may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Several caves are located in the wider region around Orliaguet: the Grottes de Cougnac is one cave, as are the Grotte de Lascaux, the Grotte des Combarelles and the Grotte de Font-de-Gaume.
The Boucle d’Orliaguet is a challenging, 14.4-kilometre circular hike starting from Orliaguet and leading, among other places, to a viewpoint over the Dordogne Valley. The Topoguide with the route of the Boucle d’Orliaguet is available from the tourist offices in Carlux and Salignac.
Culture and history
The Church of Saint-Étienne d’Orliaguet features a remarkable, colourful 17th-century altarpiece. It also contains a fully preserved statue of the Virgin and Child as part of its religious furnishings. The statue is a polychrome wooden sculpture from the 18th century and was listed as a protected object on 1 March 1973.
The Orliaguet Polissoir is located in an oak and chestnut forest on the slope of a Pech and is one of the numerous iron-bearing sandstone blocks on the slopes around the village.
The dolmen at the Plaine de Malcepiot is a prehistoric megalithic structure made up of three large upright stones aligned from east to west. Two of the stones are made of limestone, while the larger third stone is made of sandstone.
The Château de Bourzolles is a castle in the immediate vicinity of Orliaguet. The wider region is also home to the Château de Castelnaud-la-Chapelle, the Château des Milandes and the Château de la Fage; all three are castles.
