Nanteuil-Auriac-De-Bourzac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Église Saint-Jacques in Nanteuil-Auriac-de-Bourzac retains the layout of a single-nave Romanesque church, a rounded choir and a tower built over a dome. Side aisles with Gothic rib vaults and a portal decorated with Renaissance motifs were added later.

Culture and History

The former Benedictine priory, now the parish church of Saint-Etienne, was fortified during the Hundred Years’ War. This is indicated by a covered walkway above the Romanesque apse. The Église Saint-Jacques was partially listed as a historic monument by decree of 6 December 1948 because of its Renaissance portal and the capitals on the west façade.

The mills also reflect different historical uses. The Moulin du Pont is documented as a grain and oil mill in the second half of the 18th century and was largely rebuilt in the 19th century. In 1865, it had two undershot vertical water wheels, two sets of millstones and an oil press. The Moulin Poirier was a grain and oil mill as well as a paper mill; the paper mill has since disappeared, only the millrace remains from the grain-milling operation, while the oil mill is fully preserved.

The Moulin d’Auriac is documented as a grain and oil mill in the first half of the 18th century; grain milling ended in the 1950s. The Moulin du Treuil is a ruin. Parts of the main masonry as well as remains of an undershot water wheel and the sluice gates are preserved.

The Ferme de la Reynerie was built in the 18th century around a square tower dating from the previous century. It has rectangular foundations, one storey and an attic; its walls are made of limestone rubble, and the façade features dressed-stone details. Bourzac is the site of the former Château de Bourzac, which overlooks the Lizonne.
