History and Architecture

The Château de Gageac has been listed as a historic monument by decree since 27 September 1948. It was built at the end of the 12th century as a square stone keep. The complex includes dry moats and a crenellated surrounding wall with a wall walk and small bartizan turrets.

The present-day church of Gageac was built in 1701. Inside, there is a carved wooden pulpit from the 17th century and a large painting, a copy after Le Brun. It depicts Saint John writing on Patmos as he composed the Apocalypse.
