History
The Commanderie de Rixheim was built between 1733 and 1745 on the initiative of Commander Philippe de Montjoie and bears witness to the former presence of the Teutonic Order in Alsace. In 1797, a wallpaper factory was established in the Commanderie de Rixheim; in 2011, it was classified as a historic monument.
The historical tour through Rixheim comprises 24 educational panels. They introduce, among other things, the Commanderie, the cemetery, the former forge and the church. The tour materials are available in French, English and German.
Nature
The Parc de la Commanderie comprises a landscaped garden, a kitchen garden with a rose garden and greenhouses, as well as an orchard. The greenhouse in the Parc de la Commanderie was faithfully restored in 2015. The park is open to the public on Sundays and public holidays from 1 May to 30 September, from 2 to 6 pm; access is via the de la Jumenterie car park on Rue du Temple.
The Jardin de la Fraternité comprises a paved path, a shady agora, an olive tree and a sculpture of an open hand carrying the earth.
