Wimmenau is part of the Parc naturel régional des Vosges du Nord and lies in a valley on the red sandstone of the Northern Vosges. Culture and History

The Maison Suisse is one of the few half-timbered houses in the village of Wimmenau. It bears witness to the settlement of Swiss people in Wimmenau after the Thirty Years’ War and is divided lengthwise. South of the Maison Suisse lies the “Fenêtre sur le Paysage « Ciel »” landscape window in the managed Herrenfeld clearing. From there, visitors can enjoy views of the village, the ridges of the Northern Vosges and the edge of the forest.

The Church of Saint-André in Wimmenau is now a Protestant church. Its chancel tower is thought to date from the 12th century and is said to have been fitted with a ribbed vault in the 15th century. The nave was rebuilt after 1681 and extended in 1878.

The Wimmenau oil mill is a cultural heritage site dating from the 18th century, which was operated by animal power to produce rapeseed and walnut oil. The complex includes a forge and ancillary buildings from the 19th century, housing an animal-powered oil mill for walnut and rapeseed oil.

Food and Drink

“L’Étagère de nos grands-mères” offers homemade jams, syrups, dry biscuits, bredele and seasonal specialities in jars. By prior arrangement, tastings with sales are offered there for groups of up to 40 people.
