Culture and History
Among Reipertswiller’s attractions is the Simultaneous Church of Saint James the Greater. Its tower and nave date from the 12th century. The Romanesque choir was replaced in the 15th century by a Gothic choir, which has been preserved to this day. In 1478, Jacques dit le Barbu, Count of Lichtenberg, decided to establish his burial chapel in the church choir.
The cultural work of the Compagnie Lucamoros is also connected with the town: it has been based in Reipertswiller since 1981 and develops theatre that combines visual arts, music and texts.
Another historical facet is Reipertswiller’s thermal water. It was marketed from 1880 onwards and exported, among other places, to England and the United States. Its use ended during the First World War.
