History
The Church of Saints Peter and Paul in Pfaffenhoffen has been documented since 1280 and was rebuilt in the Neo-Gothic style in 1885.
The Protestant church in Pfaffenhoffen was completed in 1885 according to a design by the architect Albert Brion. It is a Romanesque Revival building made of pink-yellow sandstone, with galleries, three naves and a semicircular apse.
The Musée de l’Image Populaire is the tourist information office for Val-de-Moder.
The synagogue in Pfaffenhoffen was built and inaugurated in 1791 and is considered the last surviving example of a series of rural synagogues. It served as a place of prayer, community centre, school and accommodation, as well as for making matzo; in the basement there was a ritual bath fed by a spring.
Pfaffenhoffen’s historic fortifications included gates documented from 1486 onwards, as well as a wall with a covered walkway that was mentioned as early as before 1480. The street-facing façade of Pfaffenhoffen Town Hall was classified as a monument historique by decree of 25 April 1935.
Anyone wishing to explore Pfaffenhoffen’s churches and the Circuit des Collines may be planning to rent a holiday apartment.
