On the heights of Gœrsdorf, the Liebfrauenberg is home to a pilgrimage destination that has been mentioned since the 14th century and comprises several historic religious buildings.

Anyone considering Gœrsdorf as a travel destination may wish to find a holiday apartment there.

Culture

In the town centre, remains of the former fortifications are visible in several places. Some houses still preserve sections of the wall within their structure. The fortifications themselves were built between 1335 and 1348 and restored by the municipality in 2013.

Lochgassel was a passage through Gœrsdorf’s medieval fortifications, allowing the winegrowers to reach the vineyards directly from the town.

The Catholic Church of Saint Martin was built after the end of the simultaneum, which existed from 1685 to 1893. The foundation stone was laid in July 1894, and the church was consecrated on 28 July 1895. Today’s Protestant Church of Saint Martin was probably built around 1339 and has a Gothic tower porch and a nave with pointed-arch openings.

Mitschdorf also has historic evidence to offer: the nave of the “Eglise des Rois mages” was built in 1826–1827. The older tower was preserved and converted into a tower porch. The “Diana” sculpture was created by Serge Mangin, a sculptor from Munich. Dr Horst Sandner donated it to the municipality; it was inaugurated on 14 May 2011.

Walking and Cycling Routes

Gœrsdorf’s fountain tour begins at the Place des Quilles, north of the town hall. It is approximately 700 metres long, or about 800 metres if the return to the starting point is included. Cycle Route 4, “Route des vergers et du souvenir”, also passes through Gœrsdorf and Mitschdorf.

On the Hochwald massif, the route leads from Gœrsdorf to Lampertsloch and the Soultzerkopf. Remains of the Maginot Line are also among the historic traces found there. From there, visitors can enjoy a view of the Alsatian plain and the Black Forest in Germany.
