The Protestant church in Mundolsheim contains an interior portal from the original 12th-century bell tower, depicting mythical creatures. The church’s porch is a protected historical monument. The church also houses the graves of eight Joham de Mundolsheim, the lords of the area.

Fort Ducrot, formerly Fort Podbielski, is another of the area’s historical highlights. It was built between 1879 and 1882 and, because of its location on a narrow ridge, has an asymmetrical layout that is unique in Strasbourg. Guided tours of the fort are regularly offered, conveying the eventful history of this period. The public transport stop for Fort Ducrot is Collège, served by bus route 73.

Nature

In 1990, the municipality of Mundolsheim decided to reforest the site. After earthworks were carried out, it created the botanical educational trail of the Arboretum du Gloeckelsberg there.

The Arboretum du Gloeckelsberg was planted with 1,500 forest plants, 140 standard trees and 3,360 groups of plants. They represent a great diversity as well as the tree vegetation of the local deciduous forests.

The dense and diverse vegetation of the Arboretum du Gloeckelsberg provides small animals—including birds, insects, spiders, microfauna, reptiles and small mammals—with a habitat in the agricultural landscape.

Local Life and Trails

Mundolsheim’s weekly market takes place every Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Parc de la Mairie.

The Sentier du vieux village and the Sentier du fort Ducrot are available for walks. The Sentier du vieux village is 2.5 km long, while the Sentier du fort Ducrot is 4.2 km long. Both trails were created in 2021 and 2022.
