Culture and History
The present-day Church of Saints Peter and Paul was built in 1781. It is a rural 18th-century building with neoclassical furnishings. The church’s baptismal font ensemble combines elements from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries; its central section bears the year 1823.
On a Gothic spire there is a cube-shaped sundial with putti from Strasbourg Cathedral. On each of its four sides, a pointer indicates the solar time by means of its shadow in good weather.
Dossenheim became the mother parish, to which Wiwersheim, Quatzenheim, Offenheim and Kleinfrankenheim, among others, were subordinate at the time. A gravestone from 1629 in the church wall commemorates Jean Schwartz, the rector of Dossenheim and these places.
The rectory near the church is a bourgeois building with a rectangular floor plan and symmetrical design and is regarded as a typical example of 18th-century rectories. The former dairy, s’Mellichhiesel, stands on the same square and has been preserved unchanged; livestock farming, and thus milk production, have completely disappeared from the village.
Several attractive half-timbered farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries stand in the village centre. A Roman station was discovered at the field name “Auf dem Waschweg”, the washing path.
The old wayside crosses of Dossenheim-Kochersberg include one from 1621 at the exit of the village towards Kleinfrankenheim, which served as a station on the Rogation procession; another from 1623 at the foot of the ’s Peters farm, which was incorporated into private property; and a cross erected in 1709 in front of the rectory-town hall.
The ACLD has revived the old Witz'Owe tradition, an evening of jokes in Alsatian held every two years, bringing together 150 speakers of the dialect.
Getting Around

The Trail du Kochersberg runs for two kilometres through fields towards Dossenheim-Kochersberg, partly along wide agricultural tracks and partly on a short asphalt section. The hiking day organised by the ACLD ends with an authentic pea soup, which the hikers enjoy together with the village’s older residents.
