The Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Uhlwiller was reconstructed in 1877 in the Neo-Gothic style. At the entrance, a carved stone slab dated 1535 is visible. The church organ was built in 1878 by Théodore and Auguste Stiehr.

The church in Niederaltdorf was rebuilt in 1617. It is dedicated to Saint Nicholas and has a distinctive half-timbered bell tower.

The Musée du Pain is housed in two buildings: a former residence and an outbuilding. It opened around 1995 around Antoine Grussenmeyer’s historic threshing machine. The museum shows the process from cultivating the soil and harvesting the grain to producing the finished bread.

From 1 April to 1 November, the Musée du Pain is open on the first and third Sunday of each month from 3 to 6 p.m., as well as to groups and school visits by appointment.

Nature

The municipal forest of Uhlwiller covers 185 hectares. Scots pines grow mainly on sandy soils, while oaks, beech trees and hornbeams grow on clay soils.

History

The burial mounds of Uhlwiller are considered Celtic remains dating from before the Roman conquest of Gaul. The Roman road connected Schwindratzheim with Mertzwiller.

The Roman bridge, also known as “Willerbruck,” is a monument from the Roman era on the boundary between the municipal territories of Uhlwiller, Huttendorf and Dauendorf. It is located 500 metres from the plot known as “Auf der Burgis,” in a field on the outskirts of Niederaltdorf, and was restored in 2010.
