Culture

Among Hœrdt’s historic landmarks is the “Stiehr-Mockers” organ from 1847 in the Protestant church. Its instrumental section has been classified as a historic monument since 27 February 1980; the oak casing was added to the supplementary inventory on 29 September 1976.

The Protestant temple of Hœrdt was inaugurated on 2 April 1848. Symbolic stained-glass windows adorn the building; in 1998, it was enhanced by the artist Annie Greiner.

The Musée de l’asperge preserves Hœrdt’s local cultural and agricultural heritage. Through exhibits, photographs, films and other offerings, visitors can learn about asparagus cultivation and its distinctive features, the craft techniques associated with this vegetable, and Hœrdt’s vegetable farming.

Hœrdt’s Asparagus Festival is held every year on the second Sunday in May and is a recurring local tradition. At the festival, visitors can enter farms and sample traditional asparagus dishes.

Nature

Hœrdt’s nature trail forms an approximately twelve-kilometre circular route on the outskirts of the municipality and passes through particularly valuable ecological wet meadows in the north-east of the municipal area. Roe deer and Eurasian curlews have found a habitat in these meadows. At the end of summer, magnificent pinks bloom there; they are protected under a prefectural decree for the protection of biotopes.

The nature trail offers several family circular walks lasting approximately one hour. Two trailheads with information boards and parking areas are located at the cultural centre (1 rue de la République) and at the washhouse (car park of the agricultural cooperative), rue de La Wantzenau.

Since 24 October 2007, 172 hectares of the Hœrdter Ried meadows have been protected on the initiative of the municipality under a biotope protection order. Ploughing, removing hedges and camping are strictly prohibited there.

Activities

The “Ludisme et équilibre vital” fitness trail in the Hœrdt-Geudertheim forest comprises three routes measuring between 1,500 and 3,750 metres. They are accessible to pedestrians, people with reduced mobility, pushchairs and cyclists. The trail includes 14 exercise stations and 24 educational information boards for the general public.

The Strasbourg-Hoerdt Hippodrome has a 1,280-metre trotting track with a mastic surface, a 1,800-metre grass track for flat racing, a 1,700-metre steeplechase course and a 5,200-metre cross-country track.
