Thanvillé: Holiday apartments and holiday homes
The Château de Thanvillé retains the outward appearance of a 17th-century manor house. To the east, it is fronted by a large square courtyard surrounded on three sides by farm buildings. It was built on the site of an 11th-century fortress that monitored the entrance to the Vallée de Villé and collected tolls on the old Route du Sel.
Those planning to visit Thanvillé as a destination may wish to rent a holiday apartment.
Culture and history
The present-day church of Thanvillé was built in 1784 on the site of a previously enlarged chapel. Inside, it contains a painted wooden panel depicting a crucifixion scene, which may date from the 15th century and comes from the chapel of the Château de Thanvillé.
The organ of the Saint-Jacques church in Thanvillé also tells the story of several eras: it dates from 1833 and was built by Joseph Stiehr. Its instrumental section has been listed as a Monument historique since 1980. Restorations or alterations were carried out in 1898 by Rinckenbach, in 1951 by Roethinger and in 1957 by Schwenkedel.
Gardens and trails
Behind the Château de Thanvillé lies the Jardin Lilaveronica, with landscaped vistas, diverse plantings and a water feature. There, the “Biodiversité à ciel ouvert” exhibition takes visitors on a tour through wildlife, plant life and landscapes, using 160 large-format photographs.
The Sentier Wurzel leads from Colline Saint-Gilles to the Château de Thanvillé and is considered a trail offering impressive panoramic views. The Circuit du patrimoine de Thanvillé is a signposted circular route for a self-guided walk lasting approximately 1.5 to 2 hours.
